What is IIT JEE Exam
IIT JEE is a national level engineering entrance exam consisting of two stages – JEE Main & JEE Advanced. JEE Main is a screening exam to select the candidates who will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, which will serve as final exam to select candidates for admission into prestigious IITs. Every year, the IITs conduct a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to select candidates for the 4-year B.Tech, B.Pharm, 5-year B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc. and M.Tech courses.
Pattern of the IIT JEE Main and Advanced
JEE Main is an entry-level exam with a lower level of difficulty. It comprises of two papers. The Paper 1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and other prestigious institutions. It is also an eligibility t est for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admissions to IITs. The Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch. and B. Planning courses. At present, the IIT JEE is a single - stage objective type examination consisting of two papers of three hours duration each to test comprehension & analytical ability of candidates. Both papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2 will each have three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. All questions will be of Objective Type, designed to test aptitude, comprehension and analytical ability of the candidates.

General category candidate must have secured at least 75% marks in Std. XII board exam (with Mathematics, Physics as the compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Biology or Biotechnology) or any of the equivalent qualifying exam. (65% for SC-ST category candidates). Eligibility for the IIT JEE Advanced Candidate should be in top 2,50,000 candidates (including reserve category) clearing JEE Main – Paper 1.
New Selection Process of the IIT JEE Main and Advanced
One entrance exam for admission to IITs, NITs and IIITs
The new JEE will consist of 2 Tests viz. Main Test and Advanced Test which will test problem solving ability in basic science subjects - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Both Tests will be of 3 hours duration each.
Only the Top 1,50,000 candidates (including all categories) based on performance in JEE (Mains) will qualify to appear in the JEE (Advanced) examination, which will rank candidates for admissions to IITs, provided the candidates are among the top 20% high scorers of their respective boards in class XII examination.
As the above selection pattern gives a substantial importance to the Std. XII Board marks, it is very essential that every student prepares well not only for the proposed JEE, but for Std. XII also.
All the candidates must fulfil each and every one of the following five criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020.
Criterion 1 (Performance in JEE (Main) 2020):
Candidates should be among the top 2,24,000* (including all categories) in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2020.
The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are: 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and the remaining 50.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these four categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates. The following table shows the order to be followed while choosing top 2,24,000* candidates in various categories based on the performance in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2020.

* The total number of candidates can be slightly greater than 2,24,000 in the presence of “tied” ranks/scores in any category.
Criterion 2 Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years
Criterion 3 Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination: A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2019 or 2020. However, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declares the results for the academic year 2017-18 after June 2018, then the candidates of that board who appeared for their class XII exam in 2018 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria. In case, the Examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2017-18 before June 2018 but the result of a particular candidate was withheld, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020.
Criterion 4 Earlier admission at IITs: A candidate should NOT have been admitted in an IIT irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the program OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting centre in the past. Candidates whose admission at IITs was cancelled after joining any IIT are also NOT eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020. Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2019 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020. The candidates who paid seat acceptance fee in 2019 but (i) did not report to any reporting centre OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, during the joint seat allocation in 2019 are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020. However, in any of the above cases, the candidate is required to fulfil the conditions mentioned from criterion 1 to criterion 4.
REGISTRATION
Steps to Register for JEE Advanced
Candidates can register for JEE Advanced by following these steps:
Step-1: Login & Fill Details:
Visit Official Website and Login
o Visit the official website of JEE Advanced (link will be provided above).
o The login window will appear on the screen.
o Enter the JEE Main 2020 Roll Number, Password and Security Pin and submit it.
o Choose the new password for JEE Advanced.
Fill Details
o After creating the new password, a new page will be displayed containing candidate’s details furnished at the time of JEE Main registration.
o Mention the number of attempts.
o Choose the three examination cities as per their preferences.
o Select the language of the question paper (English or Hindi).
o Fill the category and scribe status.
o Check all the filled details carefully and submit it.
Step-2: Upload Scanned Images
Students are needed to keep ready the required documents in the prescribed specification. The image should be in JPEG format. The image size should be between 50 KB to 300 KB. The documents required for registration are mentioned below:
Required Documents
o or equivalent exam certificates.
o Category, PwD or DS( Defence Service) certificate (if applicable).
o Scribe letter (if applicable).
o PIO(Person of Indian Origin) card or OCI(Overseas Citizen of India) certificate (if required).
Upload Images
o Go through the upload images option.
o Select the required images.
o Upload the scanned images one by one carefully.
Step-3: Registration Fee Payment
After uploading the images, candidates can make the fee payment through the following methods:
Online Mode:
o Students can pay the application fee through the debit/credit card or net banking of SBI bank.
o Click on the “Pay Registration Fee” option.
o The Multi-Option Payment System (MOPS) page will appear on the screen.
o Enter the payment details and pay the application fee.
o Candidates paying for DUBAI exam centre are needed to pay the fee using International debit/credit card issued by foreign banks & issued outside India.
Offline Mode:
o First, click on the “Pay Registration Fee” link.
o Take the printout of the e-challan of SBI bank.
o Submit the printed e-challan with the required fee to the nearest SBI branch.
Step-4: Print Application Form
After the fee payment confirmation, students will be able to take the printout of the application form. Students are advised to take extra printouts and keep them safe for further use. There is no need to send any hard copy to the authority
EXAM PATTERN
Candidates can check previous years’ papers for salient features of the JEE Advanced 2020 exam pattern, along with details of previous year’s question papers in order to get a fair idea about the actual exam. This is to be done as the paper pattern is different every year with a different marking scheme, and hence students should read the instructions carefully.
The question papers will consist of objective type (multiple choice) and numerical answer type questions designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.
Incorrect answers to some of the questions will result in a deduction of marks.
The question paper will be in either English or Hindi. Candidates must exercise their choice of question paper language while registering for JEE Advanced 2020. Change of question paper language will not be entertained after registration.
PREPARATION
Focus: Focus more on understanding topics rather than just formulae. This way, you can ensure that you imbibe the method used to arrive at the formulae. Doing so will also ensure that those formulae are always at your fingertips.
Organise your time: Watch the time taken to solve questions. Subject-wise allocation of time will help you attempt the JEE Advanced paper within the given time constraint. This will also help in exam-simulation. While in the exam, you should be able to filter out the easy questions from the difficult ones, so you know the amount of time you need to allot to them.
Keep taking breaks: Burnout should be avoided at all costs. Keep taking periodic breaks to refresh yourself. Talk to friends once in a while, and don’t bury your social life entirely.
Fulfil targets on a daily basis: Your daily study plan must include learning and revision. So assign daily goals for you and fulfill them. This will boost your confidence and avoid time wastage.
Practice solving sample papers: Once you are through with a concept or chapter, solve previous years’ papers (for the last 8-10 years at least). This will guide you through the transitions in question patterns and will prepare you to anticipate them. Sample papers from other sources, such as All India Test Series, will also help you in formulating strategies and eliminating weaknesses.
Subject-wise planning: Based on your preference, select subject-wise topics and cover them each day. Remember, your weakness may be someone else’s strength so never ignore a less favorite topic. Refer the latest JEE Advanced syllabus for your study plan.
Clarity in concepts: Develop a clear thinking process so that the moment you see a question, you know the correct theory or formula to be used.
From basics to classics: Always start from the fundamentals and then gradually move up further. In this way, you can tackle even a difficult problem as you are well-versed with the concept. Jumping straightaway to an advanced problem is not a good idea.
Numericals are crucial: Solving enough numerical is crucial to crack JEE Advanced. Practice at least 40-50 numerical for each day of your JEE Advanced preparations. With subjects like Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, there is no dearth of numerical problems. Motion brings you a huge question bank, with quality questions to test yourself and solutions to keep learning simultaneously.
Save your best for last: Study more crucial sections of the syllabus in the beginning and push easier ones for later. Mark difficult portions in your notes so that revision towards the end becomes easier.
Discuss with your peers: Discussing and clearing doubts with fellow aspirants and mentors can help you overcome your weaknesses. Interact with them without any hesitation to devise an efficient study plan for yourself.

IIT COLLEGES RANKING
We have been collecting cutoff information from official sources for a long time and organized information in a way to make it easy for students to see where they stand the chance of getting admission into. That also helped us to figure out what is student choice when it comes to choosing a place to study.
Cutoff shows students’ choice for given institute and that also tell what kind crowed is found around the class and campus. Most importantly it gives a statistically based way to assess institutes. Being a computer science guy, I would prefer to make decisions based on data.
For ranking we considered cutoffs for 4 common departments, this also helps us to reduce bias and error in ranking. Included departments are Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. We combined EE and EC as many IITs offer these courses in same departments.
